Quick Overview

Turkish Filbert or sometimes called Turkish Hazelnut is native to Southeastern Europe and Western parts of Asia. Turkish Filbert is a unique landscape specimen with its’ symmetrical pyramid form, boldly textured dark green, semi-glossy foliage that turns a mild yellow in the Fall, and rough, silvery cork-like bark. Ornamental catkins arrive in early Spring. Edible hazelnuts (Filberts) enclosed in a frilly husk attract wildlife.

Why it rocks:

Turkish Filbert or sometimes called Turkish Hazelnut is native to Southeastern Europe and Western parts of Asia. Turkish Filbert is a unique landscape specimen with its’ symmetrical pyramid form, boldly textured dark green, semi-glossy foliage that turns a mild yellow in the Fall, and rough, silvery cork-like bark. Where to put it:

Turkish Filbert is an extremely hardy, wind-proof shade tree. It will do well in any landscape. A perfect selection for parkways and is tolerant of urban conditions. We recommend that it be planted away from sidewalks or driveways where leaves and nuts may fall.

What it needs:

Turkish Filbert prefers medium moisture and well-drained soils and doesn’t do well in heavy clay soils. Newly planted trees need a very consistent watering schedule. This tree will grow best in full sun to part shade. Once established, this tree is drought tolerant. Be sure to follow our watering guidelines for the first few growing seasons until the root system is well-established.
