Firespire® American Hornbeam

Why it rocks:

Firespire® American Hornbeam, commonly known as Upright Musclewood, was introduced in the early 90s by Michael Yanny of Johnson’s Nursery, Inc. This beautiful tree attracts wildlife from songbirds to butterflies and has been proven to be useful in a variety of landscape uses, best recommended for hedging and screening. Come autumn, this tree will put on a remarkable display of fall color with its tones ranging from fiery orange to red.

Where to put it:

Firespire® American Hornbeam is extremely useful for hedging, screening, or privacy. Because of its smaller size, it can be planted as an accent in landscape beds around the home or in the yard.

What it needs:

Firespire® American Hornbeam thrives in full sun to part shade and does well in a variety of soil conditions. Be sure to follow our watering guidelines for the first few growing seasons until the root system is well-established.
