Pacific Sunset® Maple is an exciting new Maple hybrid released by J. Frank Schmidt Nursery. This hybrid Maple brings the best of two trees, the Shantung and Norway Maples. The outstanding glossy green foliage turns magnificent shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. The small-medium size of the tree makes it an excellent choice for the landscape.
Where to put it:
Pacific Sunset® Maple is a versatile tree which can be planted almost anywhere in the yard. This tree should be planted at least 15ft from buildings and is also a perfect choice for the parkway.

Pacific Sunset® Maple thrives in almost any location. It is one of the toughest, most adaptable shade trees on the market.

Thank you for the question. We don't ship outside of our service area, which is the Chicagoland area that is unless you’re ordering a large number of trees. We could ship a semi load of trees to California. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi, I have one of these trees already in my park strip that was planted by the builder. To compliment the house and current placement of the tree, I’d like to plant another Pacific Sinset maple 9 feet away. Would that be an okay distance?

Pacific Sunset Maple will do fine on the parkway about 9 ft from another tree. It will grow to be about 25 ft wide at full maturity; this will give you about 12.5 ft on either side of the trunk. Once the tree reaches full maturity the two tree canopies may begin to touch a bit but that should not be an issue.

My backyard has a lot of rocks and clay soil. Will the Pacific Sunset have any problems growing in heavy clay soil?

Pacific Sunset Maple is a tree that can be planted in more clay soil and will do just fine. It is best to be sure it is not being overwatered the first 2 years after transplant, but other than that it should thrive in soil of this kind.

Does this tree have any surface root issues. Should I be concerned with planting it too close to a sidewalk?

Maple trees' root systems are more surface-growing naturally. Maple trees like to have their roots near the surface so they can drink water as soon as possible. Pacific Sunset Maple does not have an aggressive root system and they are not likely to uproot often to the surface, they will usually grow their root system around 6-8 inches underground. Planting them near a sidewalk is 100% okay and done often. It is unlikely they will lift concrete with their roots.
