Why it rocks:
Heritage® River Birch is a native, rapidly growing ornamental shade tree that offers numerous benefits, from enhancing beauty to providing privacy and screening. This tree is a top choice among homeowners looking to enhance their outdoor spaces with added privacy. Its large, serrated glossy green leaves turn a brilliant yellow-gold in the fall. One of its most distinctive features is its mottled, peeling bark, which reveals a smooth, creamy-white interior beneath the pinkish-tan outer layer. Heritage® River Birch also creates a welcoming habitat for wildlife; its slender catkins and nutlets serve as a food source for small mammals, and attract birds and butterflies. In summer, the tree is adorned with lush, glossy green leaves. As it matures, its upright arching form develops into a broadly pyramidal shape, providing lasting peace of mind and the privacy you desire.
Where to put it:
Heritage® River Birch is an excellent choice for enhancing your home with privacy, shade, and beauty. This useful tree is grown in both the single-trunk and multi-stem clump forms. The clump form is particularly popular for planting around decks, patios, and pool perimeters for effective screening, as well as along property lines. When planting this tree in groups for a more naturalized feel, be sure to use odd-numbered clusters. Heritage® River Birch can also serve as a stunning standalone accent in the front yard or as an attractive backdrop in backyards. This tree thrives near ponds, streams, or in low-lying areas. It's also a valuable addition to parks and memorial gardens, breaking up the tree line with its distinct shape and textures. Remember to plant Heritage® River Birch about 10-15 feet away from buildings to allow ample space for its mature growth.
What it needs:
Heritage® River Birch will grow happily in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Though, it is tolerant of wet sites, as well as drought. This tree is more heat tolerant than other River Birch varieties. This tough tree is resistant to the Bronze Birch Borer. Once established, this tree is extremely low maintenance. It can be manicured, as needed, as it grows and matures. To ensure a strong & healthy root system, please follow our tree care guidelines during the initial growing seasons.
